Current project load throughout the GMHILL area of operation demands the expansion of project management staff at all levels. We are looking for a Structural Engineer who is looking to join a collaborative team of energetic professionals and has the desire to become instrumental in the mid-stage development of the firm. If you have at least 10 years of experience as a Structural Engineer and have experience delivering on A/E IDIQs and D/B MATOC/MACCs for federal Defense and Civilian Departments, we would like to talk with you.
 

Position Summary

The position of Structural Engineer III requires thorough knowledge of structural design and engineering techniques. You will be responsible for planning and conducting independent work that requires judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Your expertise will devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and GMHILL standards.

Key Tasks

Following is a general list of tasks falling into the areas of responsibility of the Structural Engineer III.  It attempts to present a comprehensive, but not complete, listing of potential assignments that may be undertaken.
•     Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
•     Layout and details portions of projects using schematic layout by project lead engineer. May be assigned responsibility for schematic or conceptual layouts when qualified.
•     Provide drawing for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters.
•     Research design options and document findings for project lead engineer.
•     Review shop drawings.
•     Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects.
•     May serve as Project Engineer and as a designated Client contact on smaller, less complex projects.
•     May direct and supervise other Designers/Drafters activities.
•     Coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
•     Coordinate routine contract administration with project administrator.
•     Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents.
•     Attend and participate in Client and Company meetings.
•     Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take, and verify measurements within
project area.
•     Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.
•     Demonstrate capability and experience in managing and performing projects in a fast-paced environment.
•     Coordinates with GMHILL Construction group personnel on D/B projects, if needed
•     May participate in proposals, presentations, and business development activities
•     Other duties as assigned
Education and Training Requirements:
•     Registered Florida professional engineer certification required
•     Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and over ten years of experience with advance knowledge structural engineering
•     Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, desirable
•     Minimum 10 years’ experience in increasingly responsible structural engineering positions
•     Federal project and task order experience (Defense and/or Civilian Agency), preferred
•     LEED AP BD+C, a plus
•     Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite

•     Customer Service – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to targeted customer base/market, building relationships, and acting as internal company advocate
•     Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated, passionate, and creative team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization
•     Communication – able to effectively and persuasively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner
•     Organization & Time Management – able to work independently with minimal supervision, planning, scheduling, and organizing professional schedule to complete actions within established deadlines, handling multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
•     Leadership – ability to train, develop, coach, and mentor others.
•   Systems & Software – proficient in the use of REVIT, AutoCAD, structural analysis software, Ram structural system, Mathcad, Enercalc, and Microsoft Office software applications
•     Knowledge of Whole Building Design Guide and structurally related UFC.
